Top Internships in Las Vegas

Las Vegas might be the Entertainment Capital of the World but believe it or not, it also offers many educational opportunities beyond learning how to deal cards. You can gain valuable skills by interning for one of the many companies growing the city's construction, dining, or tourism industries.

In the last twenty years, Las Vegas has diversified its economy with light manufacturing and banking companies moving in to take advantage of the lack of state individual and corporate taxes. But the gaming industry is still the city's biggest player with Fortune 500 companies leading the way in job employment.

The two big companies with the best internships are Harrah's Entertainment and MGM Mirage. Harrah's has corporate and property internships in hotel, food/beverage, and operations in the most popular casinos including Bally's, Caesars Palace, and Paris Las Vegas. Harrah's internships are well regarded – BusinessWeek recently named the company as one of the top places to launch a career. MGM Mirage looks to place interns seeks applicants that want to continue their career in the hospitality industry. Each year, MGM accepts twenty hires to its Management Associate Program, fifty to its Hospitality Internship Program, and ten Master's students to its Advanced Degree Program.

The housing and construction industry in Las Vegas is almost as important as gaming because it's a leading employer. Despite the fact most construction froze due to the recession, plenty of good internships are available at Tishman Construction, ROEL, and Martin Harris. Housing and apartment and retail complex builders like Lennar and Trump Co. also offer excellent internships.

Not surprisingly, the dining industry also offers a wide range of internships. But it might surprise you just how central it is to its labor economy - nearly one quarter of all jobs, or about 450,000, are in the dining industry according to Nevada Workforce Informer. Jobs range from accommodation and food services to drinking places to full- and limited-service restaurants. Want to learn how to be a pastry chef? J1 Restaurant can give you a good start. Want to know how to manage a varied culinary establishment? Apply to Mandalay Bay's intern program.
